Food System Strategies Summit

June 22, 2010: The Access to Healthy Foods Coalition convened the Food System Strategies Summit in Seattle. The Summit brought together over 100 stakeholders to discuss ways to strengthen the state's food system.

Local Food Policy Council Roundtable

May 15, 2009: Access to Healthy Foods Coalition brought together representatives from state agencies, state-wide NGO's and regional entities to discuss opportunities for collaboration related to local food policy councils. The roundtable resulted in potential new partnerships and an increased understanding of the roles of various organizations in building healthy food systems.

 

Local Food Policy Council Workshop

May 15, 2008: Teams from 12 Washington counties gathered on May 15th for an all day workshop - Local Food Policy Councils: Getting Started. The teams’ track records ranged from ‘just thinking about it’ to well-established councils with lessons learned and success stories to share.  Invited guest Mark Winne engaged the audience in an interactive session on Food Policy Council Basics: the definitions, roles, membership and outcomes. 

 

 

Community Food Assessment Workshop

 

September 30, 2008: Through a USDA Community Food Projects grant and help from the Access to Healthy Foods Coalition, Tufts University in Boston offered this full-day training on design and development of small-scale community food assessments. Participants learned how to build community food assessments into your community food project planning – whether for USDA proposals or otherwise. Hugh Joseph moderated the day's training.
