Opportunities to Increase Access to Healthy Foods in Washington
University of Washington Center for Public Health Nutrition (UW-CPHN) interviewed over 60 leaders and stakeholders representing all components of Washington’s food system from production to resource and waste management. The stakeholders identified 1) perceived barriers and enhancers of access to healthy foods from multiple points of view, 2) perceived opportunities to improve access and 3) current involvement in initiatives to improve access to healthy foods. Based on the interviews, UW-CPHN developed a report detailing policy, environment and system strategies to improve Washington’s food system.
